What Personal Data We Collect
Comments
When you leave a comment on our site, we collect the information you provide in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser user agent string. We use this data to help detect spam.
We may send an anonymized string created from your email address (called a hash) to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. You can review the Gravatar Privacy Policy.
Once we approve your comment, your profile picture appears publicly next to your comment.
Media
If you upload images to our website, please remove any embedded location data (EXIF GPS) before uploading. Visitors may be able to download and extract location data from images posted on the site.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email address, and website in a cookie. This saves you from re-entering your details the next time you comment. These cookies last for one year.
When you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and disappears when you close your browser.
When you log in, we also set cookies to save your login information and screen display preferences. Login cookies last two days, and screen option cookies last one year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login stays active for two weeks. Logging out removes your login cookies.
If you edit or publish an article, we save an additional cookie in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data—it simply records the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.
Embedded Content From Other Websites
Pages on this site may include embedded content, such as videos, images, or articles. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you visited the other website directly.
These outside websites may collect data about you, use cookies, add third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with their embedded content—including tracking your activity if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who We Share Your Data With
If you request a password reset, we include your IP address in the reset email.
How Long We Retain Your Data
We keep comments and their metadata indefinitely, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them for moderation.
If you register on our website, we store the personal information in your user profile. You can view, edit, or delete your personal information at any time, though you cannot change your username. Website administrators can also view and edit this information.
Your Rights Over Your Data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file containing the personal data we hold about you.
You can also request that we erase your personal data, except for information we’re required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where We Send Your Data
We may check visitor comments through an automated spam detection service.
